What is Pilates?

Pronounced “Puh-lah-tees,” this body conditioning system of exercises was developed almost 100 years ago by Joseph H. Pilates. Focusing on the body’s core, Pilates work coordinates mind, body and breath through a variety of exercises using mat work, floor exercises with small props, or using the Pilates Reformer and other specialized machines.

The practice of Pilates teaches body awareness, conditions the core and strengthens muscles without straining them. Pilates relies on pain-free movements. The benefits are numerous:
